Neoprene vs Polyurethane Leaf Spring Pads: Which Spring-Thing Kit Is Right for Your Truck?

Neoprene vs Polyurethane Leaf Spring Pads: Whatβs the Difference?
If your truck has annoying rear leaf spring clunks, squeaks, tapping, popping or banging, both Spring-Thing kits are designed to address the same basic problem.
The main difference is the material.
Our original Spring-Thing kit uses neoprene pads, while our newer heavy-duty version uses red polyurethane pads. Both install between the rear leaf springs, both fit the same applications, and both are designed to cushion leaf-to-leaf movement that can create unwanted suspension noise.
So which one is right for your truck?
β« Original Neoprene Spring-Things
Why Choose Neoprene?
Neoprene is the material used in our original Spring-Thing kits and remains a great choice for most everyday truck owners.
- Softer and more flexible material
- Designed to cushion leaf spring movement
- Helps reduce clunks, squeaks, tapping and banging
- Excellent option for normal street and daily-driver use
- Lower-cost option
- Simple 15β20 minute installation
For many trucks, the original neoprene kit provides exactly what is needed to reduce annoying rear leaf spring noise without expensive suspension repairs or replacement.
π΄ Heavy-Duty Polyurethane Spring-Things
Why Choose Polyurethane?
Our newer polyurethane kit was developed for customers who want a firmer and more wear-resistant material.
- Firmer than neoprene
- More resistant to compression
- Designed for improved long-term wear resistance
- Well suited for frequent driving
- Good choice for towing and hauling
- Good choice for rough-road or higher-use applications
- Same simple 15β20 minute installation
The polyurethane version does not replace the original neoprene kit. It simply gives truck owners another option when they want a more durable, heavy-duty material.

The Simple Answer

If you want a firmer, more wear-resistant material or your truck sees heavier use, the polyurethane version may be the better option.
π οΈ Both Kits Install the Same Way
One of the biggest advantages of Spring-Things is that installation remains simple regardless of which material you choose.
The pads are inserted between the rear leaf springs and secured with the included zip ties. There is no need to remove the leaf springs, disassemble the suspension, remove the wheels, weld or drill.
Most customers can complete the installation in approximately 15β20 minutes.
