F-150 Leaf Spring Squeak – Fast DIY Rear Suspension Noise Repair
If your Ford F-150 has an annoying leaf spring squeak, especially at low speeds, over small bumps, or when turning into driveways, you’re not alone. Rear suspension squeaks are one of the most common F-150 noises—and the good news is that you can fix them in minutes without grease, shop fees, or replacing parts.
The Spring-Things® Kit eliminates F-150 leaf spring squeaks fast using a simple, proven DIY solution trusted by truck owners across the U.S.
⭐ Common F-150 Squeak Symptoms
F-150 owners usually report:
- Squeaking or chirping from the rear suspension
- Noise when turning into driveways or parking lots
- Chirping sound at low speeds or when coasting
- Squeaking when hitting small bumps or expansion joints
- Noise from leaf springs rubbing together in the rear
- Squeak that’s worse when the bed is empty
If your F-150 squeaks when you rock the truck side to side or step on the rear bumper, the leaf springs are almost always the cause.
🔍 Why Ford F-150 Leaf Springs Squeak
F-150 leaf springs squeak because:
- The leaves in the spring pack rub directly against each other
- Dirt and road grime build up between the leaves
- Factory shims and pads dry out or wear over time
- Temperature changes cause the springs to expand and contract
- Normal use changes bolt torque and clamp load on the pack
Dealerships and shops often suggest lubrication (a short-term fix), replacing parts (expensive), or simply “living with it.”
You don’t have to.
The fix is simple.
🛠 The Best DIY Fix for F-150 Leaf Spring Squeak
The Spring-Things® Squeak Eliminator Kit is designed to fit most 2.5-inch rear leaf springs used on many Ford F-150 trucks.
Why it works:
- Separates the leaf springs slightly where they rub
- Eliminates leaf-on-leaf friction that causes squeaking
- Stops the metal contact without grease or messy sprays
- Lasts far longer than lubrication or temporary sprays
- Keeps the factory springs and hardware in place
One kit fits most F-150s that use 2.5" wide rear leaf springs. If your springs measure 2.5" or slightly wider, the kit is designed to work.
⏱ Installation Time: 15–20 Minutes
All you need is:
- The Spring-Things kit
- A floor jack and jack stands
- Basic hand tools (ratchet, sockets, or wrenches)
No special suspension experience required. If you can safely jack up the truck and tighten a bolt, you can do this install.
🔧 Compatible F-150 Trucks (Common Fitment)
The Spring-Things® kit is designed for F-150 trucks equipped with 2.5" wide rear leaf springs, including many:
- 1990s F-150 models with 2.5" rear leaf springs
- 2000s F-150 models with traditional rear leaf spring packs
- 2010s and newer F-150s that still use 2.5" rear leaf springs
Because Ford has used different rear suspension setups over the years, the most important check is spring width. If your rear leaf springs are 2.5" wide or slightly wider where the kit installs, the kit typically fits.
Always confirm your spring width before ordering if you’re unsure.

📝 FAQ
Will this fix the annoying squeak when backing up or turning?
Yes. Those noises are usually caused by the leaf springs shifting and rubbing against each other—this kit is designed to stop that.
Does it replace anything?
No. The kit installs onto your existing leaf springs.
Will it work on lifted F-150s?
Yes, as long as the truck still uses 2.5" rear leaf springs in the factory-style location where the kit mounts.
Does temperature affect it?
No. Hot, cold, rain, snow, or road grime won’t undo the fix.
Received the unit for my 2024 Chevy 3500HD which was making a grunt/grind noise as the body rocked side to side going slow. The dealer replaced the plastic pad between the spring which cured the issue for about a week, this told me that was the issue. Took me about 45 minutes to install without removing the wheels, most of this was setup and take down time. I found that 2 large flat blade screwdrivers worked well, pry up with one, slide the second in to hold the spring up, cleaned between the springs then installed, really easy, then reverse the process to remove the screw drivers. I knew as soon as I moved the truck this resolved the issue. I have driven the vehicle now for about a week and still quiet. The issue annoys the heck out of me, this product took care of the problem. I contacted the dealer to let them know the GM fix worked temporarily but the issue returned, let them if others have the same issue, here is the fix. Highly recommend this product if you have this issue.
