Fix Toyota Tacoma Leaf Spring Squeak – Fast DIY Rear Suspension Noise Repair

If your Toyota Tacoma has an annoying squeak coming from the rear suspension—especially at low speeds, over small bumps, or when turning into driveways—you’re not alone. Tacomas are well-known for leaf spring squeaks. The good news: you can fix it in minutes without grease, shop fees, or replacing parts.

The Spring-Things® Kit eliminates Tacoma leaf spring squeaks fast using a simple, proven DIY solution trusted by truck owners across the U.S.

⭐ Common Tacoma Squeak Symptoms

Tacoma owners often report:

  • Squeaking or chirping from the rear suspension
  • Noise when pulling into or out of driveways
  • Chirping sound at low speeds or when coasting
  • Squeaks when hitting small bumps or rough pavement
  • Noise that seems to come from the leaf spring area
  • Squeak that is worse when the bed is empty

If your Tacoma squeaks when you rock the truck side-to-side or bounce the rear bumper, the leaf springs are almost always the cause.

🔍 Why Toyota Tacoma Leaf Springs Squeak

Tacoma leaf springs squeak because:

  • The individual leaves in the spring pack rub against each other
  • Dirt, dust, and road grit get between the leaves
  • Factory pads and shims wear out or fall out over time
  • Temperature swings cause the metal to expand and contract
  • Normal driving changes bolt torque and clamp pressure on the pack

Sprays, grease, and silicone might quiet the noise for a short time, but they don’t last—and they attract more dirt.

You don’t have to live with it.

The fix is simple and doesn’t require new springs.

🛠 The Best DIY Fix for Tacoma Leaf Spring Squeak

The Spring-Things® Squeak Eliminator Kit is designed to fit most 2.5" wide leaf springs found on many Toyota Tacoma trucks.

Why it works:

  • Creates a thin, durable barrier between the leaf springs
  • Eliminates metal-on-metal contact that causes squeaking
  • Works without messy grease or temporary sprays
  • Lasts far longer than lubrication
  • Lets you keep your factory springs and hardware

If your Tacoma uses 2.5" rear leaf springs, the kit is typically a direct fit.

⏱ Installation Time: 15–20 Minutes

You’ll need:

  • The Spring-Things kit
  • A floor jack and jack stands
  • Basic hand tools (ratchet, sockets, or wrenches)

No special suspension experience is required. If you can safely lift the truck and tighten bolts, you can install this kit.

🔧 Compatible Tacoma Trucks (Common Fitment)

The Spring-Things® kit is designed for Tacoma trucks equipped with 2.5" wide rear leaf springs, including many:

  • First-generation Tacoma models with traditional rear leaf spring packs
  • Second-generation Tacoma models (2005–2015) with leaf springs
  • Third-generation Tacoma models (2016+) using 2.5" rear leaf springs

The most important check is spring width—if your rear leaf springs are 2.5" wide where the kit installs, it usually fits.

📝 FAQ

Will this fix the squeak when backing up or turning?
Yes. Those noises are usually caused by the leaf springs shifting and rubbing against each other—this kit is designed to stop that.

Do I need to replace any parts?
No. The kit installs onto your existing leaf springs.

Will it work on lifted Tacomas?
Yes, as long as the truck still uses 2.5" wide rear leaf springs in the factory-style location.

Is it affected by weather or off-road use?
No. Heat, cold, rain, mud, snow, and off-road driving won’t undo the fix.

Received the unit for my 2024 Chevy 3500HD which was making a grunt/grind noise as the body rocked side to side going slow. The dealer replaced the plastic pad between the spring which cured the issue for about a week, this told me that was the issue. Took me about 45 minutes to install without removing the wheels, most of this was setup and take down time. I found that 2 large flat blade screwdrivers worked well, pry up with one, slide the second in to hold the spring up, cleaned between the springs then installed, really easy, then reverse the process to remove the screw drivers. I knew as soon as I moved the truck this resolved the issue. I have driven the vehicle now for about a week and still quiet. The issue annoys the heck out of me, this product took care of the problem. I contacted the dealer to let them know the GM fix worked temporarily but the issue returned, let them if others have the same issue, here is the fix. Highly recommend this product if you have this issue.

I have a 2025, Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Custom with 3,500 miles that starting having loud noise in rear end while making slow turns and going over uneven terrain on road, driveway, etc. At times the noise sounded like the entire truck bed was loose. The dealership didn’t see any issues. I decided to give these a try after reading other customer’s reviews and glad that I did! The loud clunking noise is gone! Thank you Spring-Things! Easy install!
